18th November — Regent's Park
On a bright and mild Monday, 18th November, 15 Members joined Dave Newland and his wife, Ann,
as Dave took us for his eleventh and final Autumn Stroll.
Meeting at Great Portland Street Station, we set off on a gentle walk of about two and three-quarter
miles around the southern part of Regent's Park. Entering the park, we were greeted by a friendly
pair of Egyptian Geese and a noisy gang of Ring-necked Parakeets.
The gardens were unexpectedly colourful for the time of year, with late flowering red and yellow
roses and elegant borders of polyanthus with red heuchera and phormium. The lakes were alive with
Swans, Geese, Mallard, Tufted Ducks, Shoveller Ducks and even a lone Great Crested Grebe.
A third of the way round, we stopped at the Regent's Kitchen café for refreshments, then
continued our walk, pausing on the Japanese Bridge for a photo opportunity.
Although the weather forecast had been worrying, we were able to complete our Stroll in comfort
before the promised rain finally arrived as we were returning to the tube station.
Thank you, Dave, you've given us much to enjoy over the years!
